Jaw Pain Treatment for Kyogle
Jaw pain and headaches are often the same problem seen from two angles, and treating one without the other rarely lasts. North Coast Head Neck & Jaw Centre is an osteopathy practice that treats only head, neck and jaw conditions. Our Lismore clinic is 45 minutes from Kyogle and runs Saturday mornings, and there is a second clinic in Ballina.
Jaw pain and headaches, treated together
For many people, jaw pain and headaches are the same problem seen from two angles. The muscles that clench the jaw run into the temples; the neck holds the head against the pull of both. Years of clenching, an old knock, or a stiff neck can set the whole system off, and treating only one part rarely lasts.
You will see Dr Leon Erdrich, an AHPRA registered osteopath with a special interest in treating the head, neck and jaw and a clinical educator in the osteopathy program at Southern Cross University. Because the practice treats only these conditions, the jaw joint, the chewing muscles and the neck are assessed together at the first appointment. We explain what we find, work alongside your dentist, and say plainly if the problem is not one we can help with.
Read more on our jaw and orofacial pain page. If headaches come with the jaw pain, our headache page for Kyogle may also help.
Also treated in Lismore
Jaw pain rarely arrives alone. Headaches, neck pain and dizziness are assessed in the same appointment, so one trip covers everything.

Common questions
Is my clicking jaw serious?
Clicking without pain is common and often needs nothing. Clicking with pain, catching or locking is worth assessing, because the joint is not tracking evenly.
Can jaw problems cause ear pain or ringing?
Yes. The joint sits in front of the ear canal, and TMD often presents as earache, fullness or tinnitus with a normal ear exam.
I clench my teeth when I am stressed. What can be done?
We release the overworked muscles, treat the joint and neck, and help you notice and reduce daytime clenching. Night grinding is managed together with your dentist, usually with a splint.
Can you coordinate with my dentist?
Yes. With your permission we share findings and coordinate treatment with your dentist or orthodontist, wherever they are.
Will I need to come in every week?
Not usually. Once we understand what is driving the jaw pain, we plan follow-ups around what is practical and give you exercises and strategies for between visits.
How long is a first jaw appointment?
An hour. History, then assessment of how the jaw opens and closes, the joint, the chewing muscles and the neck, explained as we go. Treatment usually begins the same day.
Can I come on a Saturday?
Yes. The Lismore clinic runs Saturday mornings, which suits people who cannot lose a weekday to the trip.
What do appointments cost?
$170 for the initial hour and $125 for each follow-up. No referral is needed. Health fund claims go through HICAPS, and a GP management plan attracts a $61.80 Medicare rebate.
